Antique Advertising Stoneware Monmouth-Western Rolling Pin Rust Band S. W. HELFENSTEIN – Sun City, IOWA Advertising stoneware rare triple rust banded rolling pin made by Western Stoneware Company located in Monmouth, Illinois for the S. W. Helfenstein general merchandise store in Dallas Center, Iowa. According to the “Western Stoneware Co. Factory Orders For Stenciled Advertising Rolling Pins 1915-1953″ catalog, S. W. Helfenstein made an order of 200 rolling pins on August 17th, 1915. How many of these pins that actually survived is unknown. However, through research it appears that this is very a scarce one and rarely offered. 4 Line Advertisement Reads: S. W. HELFENSTEIN, General Merchandise Where Quality Tells and Price Sells DALLAS CENTER, – IOWA Condition: In very good condition. The right edge has a fine superficial surface hairline circling the handle and does not comprise the the structure of the pin in any way. The left edge has the common rash type markings from the making. Some crazing throughout the pin from age to expected but hard to notice if not examining closely. Wooden handles are screwed on tightly and we have not removed them to inspect the interior of the pin. However, the handles still roll and function properly. We will be shipping this one with the handles intact. If there are any other flaws/imperfections in the stoneware such as glaze/paint skips and glaze pops etc. they are natural from the making.
